Lightscaping or the art of outdoor patio lighting, extending across the deck, through walkways to gardens has come well into its own,
aided in no small part by technology. For ambient patio lighting, few things beat the natural flicker and light emanating from a bamboo or copper Tiki
torch on a breezeless night.
Safety is always a concern, particularly in high traffic areas where there may be children and as such alternative solutions
need not be merely appropriate, they can be nothing short of brilliant.
Lightscaping with patio lights can be achieved with surprisingly little effort through small flourishes and touches that may include
something as simple as umbrella lighting. More involved patio lighting can include recessed light along the deck, lighting at different levels and foliage
lighting, which can have a surprisingly dramatic effect on your patio by night.
Whether uplighting, downlighting, zone lighting or moonlighting (quite
literally employing nature as a lighting element), available patio lighting options will leave more than just a twinkle in the eye.
For those who are not afraid of getting their hands a little dirty, lightscaping can unearth an abundance of pleasant surprised by successfully employing
nature’s elements as part of their patio lighting scheme. Starting with the most natural of resources, solar lighting not only offers luminescence, but
is ecofriendly and uses less resources.
One thing to bear in mind however, is that lighting and wiring must not only endure the elements, but should be
hidden from potential of little paws and claws that go pitter patter in the night.
