Whether called a sideboard, a hutch, a credenza or labelled a server, its role in the dining room is one of two; as a showcase or display for the most
cherished of family dining treasures, or as an extra set of hands for those annual family feasts when food crowds the table as much as family crowds the room.
While always welcome and warm, the question is where to put it all.
And for those lucky enough to own a sideboard, the answer is always at the ready.
The history of the sideboard is at the very least a storied one, coming into vogue based on need as separate dining rooms began to make their appearances in new
home of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Much as a bell once announced dinner, calling everyone to the table, a sideboard announced success, as did the finest of china and the silver accoutrements
adorning it.
A sideboard still announces success, however, too formal a piece can make the dining room uninviting and cold.

Finally, think about the placement of your sideboard before
introducing it to your decor scheme.
These are not small dining room furniture pieces and you don’t want to spend a lot of time moving it around, or discover it
overwhelms your dining room.
After all, the center of the dining room is supposed to command the center of attention while the sideboard has its rightful place,
well, somewhere off to the side.
